Honestly, this session was one I found more challenging to engage with. I think the higher tech challenges are a little further outside of my comfort zone and looking back I wish I had tried a little bit harder to really be involved with these activities. I enjoyed the 3D pen and building with the lego but it definitely felt like I needed a lot more practice with these tools in order to actually use them to accomplish anything like a mini-maker challenge. I think it’s important to remember that every assignment won’t always appeal to every student but when given enough autonomy and choice, key aspects of a makerspace as outlined by Cohen et al., students can still engage and have more power to make the project into something they like (2016).

Key Takeaways
It will be very beneficial to give students time to play around with new materials/tools before they are expected to design and create with those tools. The excitement of new technology as well as not being sure how to use the tech can contribute to students being off-task.
