This week, we watched a youtube video on how to create a stop motion video. The video went over the basics of stop motion and gave a lot of tips and advice on the best way to make a stop motion video. The man in the video had his son involved and this really helped to show how kids can be successful doing stop motion, with the right set up and support.
Stop motion! Two deer look for their lost baby!
This is the stop motion video, our group created in class. We used the Zing Studio app to make our stop motion in order to prepare for our next insitu when we will be helping a class make their own stop motion creations. This assignment was really fun and really required a lot of patience, teamwork, and creativity. Because of all the collaboration required I think this would be a really great assignment for kids in the classroom. There are so many ways to use stop motion in a class, you can have kids working in groups, pairs, or individually. I like that you can give them varying degrees of freedom depending on what your class needs.
A cool way to do this assignment, I think, would be to maybe assign the kids a scene from a book – the level of difficulty could vary, maybe it’s a picture book to get them started or a little harder you could do a scene from a class novel. I would put the kids in groups and give them each a job, have a few kids as characters or in charge of characters, and then one of them taking the pictures and one helping organize everything/ move the characters make sure it looks right in the camera. And they can all help with planning and with editing.
Overall, really cool assignment and great way to have kids working together, telling stories, and learning to work with technology!
