Reading Interest Survey
- How do you feel about reading? Tell me about it.
Personally I love reading. I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. I have really positive memories of reading and learning to read, like listening to books every night before bed and going to the public library for new books.
In school environments, I think reading is really important as a foundation for other academics and so I think it’s beneficial to focus on reading as it helps other areas as well.
2. What types of book do you like to read?
I like to read a lot of different types of books. I read fantasy, contemporary, historical fiction etc. I don’t think I have a favourite genre, but I do like books that are character driven and have interesting plots.
3. List some hobbies and things you like to do outside of school?
I like to read, as I said. I also like to hike and paddle board. I love travelling and would like to do more, and possibly try teaching internationally.
4. Who are your favourite authors?
I don’t really think I have a favourite author, some of my recent favourite books are Shantaram, Name of the Wind, and My Brilliant Friend.
5. Tell me a bit about the last book you read that you really enjoyed
The last book I really enjoyed was one I read last semester called ‘My Brilliant Friend’ by Elena Ferrante. It’s set in Italy in the 1960’s and follows two girls from their childhood into their forties/fifties. And we see all these different phases in their lives and different things they go through and how their friendship changes and their different perspectives. I really enjoyed the writing and the story.
6. Tell me a bit about what you have been doing since last semester during your winter break. How have you been spending your time?
Over winter break I worked a lot and spent time with family as much as possible. I was also able to meet my practicum class which was very exciting and eased my anxiety a lot. I am very excited to plan for practicum and hopefully use some of these assignments to prepare for practicum.
7. What topics or subjects do you like to learn about
I really like history and psychology. I also like math and figuring things out like problems and riddles. Growing up, I loved sci-fi and dystopian stories, but currently I like reading about everyday things that people go through. Things that are very grounded in reality.
8. If you could read a book about one thing, what would that be.
I don’t think there’s any one thing I would like to read about. I really like to read different perspectives and experiences and events. Although, I do find I will read in different phases almost. I read one book about an event or topic and then want to read more and more on that subject.
